They differ from one another and should not be substituted unless the manufacturer has already pre-configured to accept more than one type of charger chemistry. If your laptop charger actually allows an upgrade from NiMH to Li-Ion, then you will have longer watt hours.

Ni-MH: 12 Volts x 4.62 Amperes = 55.44 Watt Hours

Li-Ion: 19.5 Volts x 3.4 Amperes = 66.3 Watt Hours

The result shows that Li-Ion typically has longer run time.
